Los Angeles, April 26 (NationPress) British-French actress Emma Mackey, recognized for her role in the popular streaming series ‘Sex Education’, is preparing to collaborate with director Greta Gerwig on the anticipated film ‘Narnia’.

The actress has secured the prestigious role of the White Witch, the main villain, who was previously portrayed by Tilda Swinton starting with the 2005 film ‘The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe’, as reported by ‘Variety’.

Mackey will be joined by Meryl Streep, who is in discussions to play Aslan, the talking lion that acts as Narnia’s protector and mentor for the human children who enter this magical realm.

According to ‘Variety’, Gerwig has penned the script and is directing the film, which is expected to adapt the sixth book of the series, ‘The Magician’s Nephew’, where the White Witch (known as Jadis) plays a central role.

The film ‘Narnia’ is currently scheduled to premiere in IMAX on Thanksgiving Day 2026, and will be screened globally for two weeks before its release on Netflix around the next Christmas.

In 2018, Netflix announced its plans to create new films and series based on Lewis’The Chronicles of Narnia’. Gerwig joined the project in 2020 following her Oscar nomination for Best Director for ‘Lady Bird’ and her successful adaptation of ‘Little Women’.

In 2023, Gerwig released the year’s blockbuster with ‘Barbie’, a $1.4 billion box office success and Oscar-winning film featuring Margot Robbie as producer and star.

Directed by Gerwig, who co-wrote the screenplay with Noah Baumbach, ‘Barbie’ provided a unique perspective on the existence of the Mattel doll, chronicling her and Ryan Gosling’s Ken as they transition from Barbie Land into the real world, experiencing ideological growth along the way. Mackey appeared as one of Robbie’s fellow Barbies.

Mackey has also secured key roles in J.J. Abrams’ upcoming film for Warner Bros., featuring alongside Glen Powell and Jenna Ortega; and Julia Ducournau’s ‘Alpha’, which is set to premiere next month at the Cannes Film Festival.
