The original “Awarapan”, released in 2007 and directed by Mohit Suri, was an uncredited adaptation of the South Korean film ‘A Bittersweet Life.’ Starring Emraan Hashmi, Shriya Saran, Mrinalini Sharma, and Ashutosh Rana, the movie depicted the life of gangster Shivam Pandit, who is assigned by his boss Bharat Malik to monitor Reema, Malik’s secret Pakistani mistress.

In the meantime, Emraan Hashmi was recently featured in the Telugu film “They Call Him OG,” alongside Pawan Kalyan. In this action-packed thriller, Hashmi portrayed the primary antagonist, Omkar Vardhaman Mirajkar alias 'Omi Bhau'. The film follows Kalyan as OG, a retired gangster returning to Bombay in 1993 after a decade away to confront his rival crime lord, Omi Bhau.
