Mumbai, Dec 17 (NationPress) Renowned Indian jewelry designer Farah Khan Ali fondly reflects on her late mother, actress Zarine Khan. On Wednesday, she took to Instagram to express her thoughts, emphasizing her mother's legacy of kindness and compassion.
Farah wrote, “Death serves as the ultimate equalizer. I never truly understood its profound impact until I lost my mother. It reveals the enormity of loss and, even more importantly, the priceless nature of love in our lives. My mother, Zarine Khan, appeared robust on the exterior, yet she possessed a tender heart. She embodied kindness and compassion. Regardless of the challenges she faced, she consistently chose to greet the world with her smile. She lived by the principle that the show must go on, through every twist and turn life presented.”
She recounted a poignant memory that exemplifies her mother’s spirit: “There was a time when my father, Sanjay Khan, was hospitalized with severe third-degree burns from a fire incident on the set of his television series ‘The Sword of Tipu Sultan’. The doctors gave him less than a ten percent chance of survival, but only if we consented to amputate his hands, which my mother adamantly opposed. She firmly believed that if he survived, he would resent her for making that choice, so she made a conscious decision to fight for his life.”
Farah elaborated that her father was intentionally kept unaware of the severity of his condition. Her mother instructed her children to always present themselves well and to speak only of cheerful and positive matters during visits.
She added, “My mother followed this practice herself. She visited him daily, impeccably dressed, radiating positivity, and engaging him in lighthearted conversations to divert his attention from his dire health. Yet, once outside his room, she would quietly break down in tears. Nevertheless, she believed that energy influences energy, and she was proven right. My father remained oblivious to how critical his condition was, thanks to the uplifting energy surrounding him. Ultimately, he survived. The very doctors who had given up on him later referred to him as the ‘miracle man.’ That miracle was my mother—her faith, her strength, and her unwavering commitment to show up with a smile against all odds. These past few weeks have been heart-wrenching for me, as my mother was so much more than just a parent.”
She continued, “She was my best friend, my confidante, my advisor, my source of inspiration, and so much more. I relied on her for every significant decision, as she never judged me, always approaching situations with impartiality. We cherished countless moments together. Young at heart, she loved traveling with me, creating lasting memories. When she departed this world suddenly, her absence shattered me. I felt as though the light that ignited my passion had been extinguished, along with my motivation. Yet today, I recall her words to me.”
Zarine Khan, wife of actor-director Sanjay Khan and mother to Sussanne Khan and Zayed Khan, passed away on November 7, 2025, at the age of 81 due to a cardiac arrest.
“Regardless of the challenges you face in life, always remember to dress up and greet the world with a smile. To all her family, friends, and everyone whose lives she touched—today marks 40 days since her passing, and it’s time for us to embrace life again, just as Zarine, my mother, would have wished. Let’s dress up and present ourselves with a smile as she always did. I want to express my heartfelt gratitude to my family, friends, and followers who offered such overwhelming support during this time of profound grief. Many of you never met my mother yet felt her absence as deeply as I do. Some of you haven't met me but reached out with comforting words. In moments like these, you truly realize who will stand by you. Life must move forward, as must I, for I have miles to traverse before I rest. She may be beyond my sight, but she will forever remain in my soul, and with her love, I will rise again. Rest in peace, my beloved angel mamma. I will be strong, just like you. Until we reunite on the other side,” she concluded.
