Filmmaker and choreographer Farah Khan has revealed the unexpected backstory behind her decision to cast actor Shreyas Talpade in the 2007 blockbuster 'Om Shanti Om' — and it had nothing to do with a formal audition. The casting, it turns out, happened at a gym.

The Gym Encounter That Changed Everything

Farah shared the anecdote during a visit to Shreyas and his wife Deepti Talpade's home, featured on her YouTube channel. 'I want to tell you all that for Om Shanti Om, make one guess where I met Shreyas and cast him in the movie,' she said on camera.

When she asked Shreyas to jog her memory about the location, he promptly replied: 'Power Gym.' Farah confirmed it, recalling how both of them would frequent the same gym regularly. 'I used to go to the gym every day, and Shreyas also used to come there to work out,' she added.

Shreyas, never missing a beat, quipped back: 'And I thought you used to come there for scouting' — drawing laughter from those present.

Kangana Ranaut Was Also a Regular There

Farah went on to reveal that Kangana Ranaut was another familiar face at the same gym, frequenting it before the release of her debut film 'Gangster'. 'One more person used to come to the Power House Gym. Kangana used to come there before Gangster,' Farah said.

How Her Husband Recognised Shreyas First

Farah also shared that it was her husband, filmmaker Shirish Kunder, who first identified Shreyas's potential, recognising him from his small but memorable role in the 2002 film 'Aankhen'. 'He had such a small role, but he was so good in the movie,' Shirish had told Farah, according to her account.

Despite the recognition, Farah admitted she was initially hesitant to approach Shreyas for the role, given the enormous success of his critically acclaimed film 'Iqbal'. She was reportedly unsure whether he would agree to take on the part.

Shah Rukh Khan, Shreyas, and the Improvisation Chronicles

Farah also revisited fond memories from the sets of Om Shanti Om, recalling how Shreyas and co-star Shah Rukh Khan were notorious for improvising their scenes. According to Shreyas, their on-set spontaneity eventually tested Farah's patience. 'Farah came and told us: If you improvise any more, just see. Say the dialogues we have written,' he recalled with a laugh.
