Los Angeles, Dec 25 (NationPress) Filmmaker Frank Darabont, who had just begun to enjoy his retirement when ‘Stranger Things’ premiered on streaming platforms in 2016, is back in the spotlight.

After concluding his last directing project, the 2013 episode ‘Red Light’ from ‘Mob City’, he settled with his wife on California’s Central Coast. There, he could reflect on a remarkable career filled with classics like ‘The Shawshank Redemption’, ‘The Green Mile’, ‘The Mist’, and episodes from ‘The Walking Dead’ and ‘The Shield’, as reported by Variety.

About ten years into his retirement, Darabont received a call from his agent revealing that Matt and Ross Duffer, the masterminds behind ‘Stranger Things’, were admirers of his cinematic contributions.

According to Variety, the admiration was mutual, as Darabont and his wife had binge-watched the first four seasons of the Netflix series multiple times. The agents facilitated a relaxed meeting while the Duffers were in the midst of crafting the show’s fifth and concluding season.

Shortly after, Dan Trachtenberg, who was slated to direct two episodes of ‘Stranger Things 5’, had to withdraw due to a scheduling clash with his upcoming film, ‘Predator: Badlands’.

In a surprising turn of events, the Duffers proposed that Darabont step in for Trachtenberg. After a week of contemplation, he chose to emerge from retirement to collaborate with the ‘Stranger Things’ crew.

At 66, Frank Darabont directed Episodes 3 and 5 of the series' final season. Episode 3, which debuted with Volume 1 on November 26, is titled ‘The Turnbow Trap’ and features a blend of action and emotion set in both the Upside Down and the Rightside Up, marking a triumphant comeback for the director. Episode 5, named ‘Shock Jock’, will commence the three-episode second volume on December 25. The series finale of ‘Stranger Things’ is set to hit theaters and Netflix on December 31, 2025.
