Mumbai, May 14 (NationPress) The Federation of Western India Cine Employees (FWICE) has called upon all Indian film producers to rethink Turkey as a filming choice due to the nation's increasing backing of Pakistan.
In an official statement, the film organization highlighted the importance of the Indian film industry taking a definitive stance against Turkey's political affiliations, encouraging producers to explore alternative shooting locations.
FWICE, which advocates for 36 distinct crafts of workers, technicians, and artists within India's media and entertainment sector, has made a strong appeal for producers to avoid Turkey as a filming site. This appeal arises from Turkey's escalating support for Pakistan over issues that hold substantial importance to India's national interests.
In the statement, FWICE declared, “FWICE has consistently upheld the principle that ‘Nation Comes First.’ Given recent developments and Turkey’s ongoing support for Pakistan, which has raised alarms regarding national integrity and security, we believe it is not in the best interests of the Indian film industry to invest or collaborate in any way that could indirectly aid or benefit such a nation.”
The statement also noted, “Turkey’s position has been evident not only diplomatically but also in various international arenas, where it has taken stances opposing India’s sovereign interests. As an industry deeply embedded in Indian culture, we cannot remain apathetic to actions that threaten our nation’s dignity or security. We appeal to all production houses, line producers, actors, directors, and crew members in the Indian film fraternity to unite in solidarity with our nation and boycott Turkey as a filming location until it reassesses its diplomatic approach and adheres to the principles of mutual respect and non-interference.”
“FWICE has always been a cornerstone of support for the Indian film industry and its workforce. Our unity during such moments is crucial to convey a powerful, collective message: India’s sovereignty and dignity are non-negotiable. We are hopeful that the Indian film community will heed this call in the greater national interest,” the film body added.
FWICE's appeal follows Turkey and Azerbaijan's official endorsement of Pakistan, which incited considerable backlash in India. On May 8, both Turkey and Azerbaijan released statements expressing support for Pakistan. Turkey’s Foreign Ministry condemned Operation Sindoor, labeling it a “provocative act.” These declarations triggered widespread outrage across Indian social media, with many, including notable figures like Rupali Ganguly, expressing their frustration and amplifying calls to boycott Turkey.
