Girish Malik Takes Pride as His Film ‘Band of Maharajas’ Competes for Oscars

Mumbai, Dec 4 (NationPress) In a remarkable milestone for Indian cinema, ‘Band of Maharajas,’ a musical film helmed by Girish Malik, has been recognized as eligible for the Oscars in two esteemed categories.

The film features the impactful song ‘Ishq Walla Daku’ and its mesmerizing original score, crafted by the esteemed maestro Bickram Ghosh, making them strong contenders for nominations in the Best Original Song and Best Original Score categories.

This accomplishment underscores the extraordinary collaboration between Girish Malik and Bickram Ghosh, who previously garnered Oscar acclaim for their celebrated 2014 film ‘Jal.’ Their current partnership is breaking new ground and enchanting audiences worldwide.

In a statement, Director Girish Malik expressed, “We are thrilled that Band of Maharajas is now in the race for Oscar nominations. This film is not merely a narrative; it is a sincere homage to the ability of music to cross boundaries and unite people.” Bickram Ghosh remarked, “Band of Maharajas is a labor of love, and we are thankful for the support and recognition it has garnered thus far.”

‘Band of Maharajas’ narrates the inspiring and touching story of three young musicians from a small border village in Punjab. Fueled by their love for music, they courageously venture into Pakistan, a nation where music often faces hostility from radical elements. The film chronicles their journey of tenacity, courage, and the unifying essence of art.

As the only Hindi film contending for Oscar nominations this year, ‘Band of Maharajas’ stands as a representative of Indian cinema on the international stage.

Following Kiran Rao’s ‘Laapataa Ladies’ being selected as India’s official entry for the 2025 Oscars, Iman Chakraborty’s song ‘Iti Maa’ and Bickram Ghosh’s ‘Ishq Walla Daku’ are currently being evaluated for the Best Original Song category.

In 2023, the song ‘Naatu Naatu’ from ‘RRR’ made history as the first Indian feature film to win an Oscar. The soundtrack by MM Keeravani received the Best Original Song Award at the 95th Academy Awards in Los Angeles, United States.
