Mumbai, Dec 7 (NationPress) Actor Gulshan Devaiah has garnered significant acclaim for his recent web series 'Perfect Family'. The actor discussed the intricacies of filming an intimate scene with the current 'National Crush', Girija Oak, in an interview with IANS, emphasizing the importance of sensitivity and sensibility during such shoots.
"Engaging in these kinds of scenes is always challenging, as there exists a boundary that shouldn't be crossed," Gulshan mentioned in his conversation with IANS.
"Portraying intimacy or violence is quite complex because you have to create a sense of realism without overstepping any limits. Thus, it’s crucial to approach it with responsibility," he elaborated.
"Trust is essential when collaborating with someone; I must trust them, and they must trust me, so we can look out for one another. Building that trust quickly is vital, especially if you don’t know the person well," he shared.
He also highlighted the role of intimacy coordinators on set.
"At times, intimacy coordinators are present, as was the case with 'Ulajh'; we had one from the UK who walked us through the process and ensured everyone felt at ease. Ironically, a majority of those scenes were ultimately cut from the film! Only a fraction remained in the final cut, but that’s simply how it goes sometimes," he noted.
Gulshan added, "With time, I’ve become more adept at handling such scenes. When we filmed 'Hate Story' back in 2012, there were no intimacy coordinators or any guidance to navigate such matters. We had to figure it all out ourselves. Fortunately, I was partnered with Paoli Dam, who was incredibly supportive and made me feel at ease throughout the process."
Gulshan’s recent projects have reaffirmed his acting skills, showcasing his versatility.
When IANS probed Gulshan about casting choices based on social media follower counts, he replied, "I don’t concern myself with that. It’s a trend. Is it substantiated? Does it hold any real value? I’m not sure."
"I’m uncertain if all those followers genuinely translate into subscriptions or ticket sales. However, someone more knowledgeable is making those decisions, and perhaps they believe hiring based on that is advantageous," he added.
"Some of those individuals are genuinely talented actors. I don’t wish to speak negatively about anyone. Everyone will find their path, in their own way," he concluded.
Reflecting on his own social media presence, Gulshan remarked, "Check my social media; I don’t even have 300K followers. Yet, I’m still getting work."
