Mumbai, Aug 10 (NationPress) Guru Dutt, an illustrious filmmaker and actor in the Indian film industry, cherished moments spent with his family at their farmhouse in Lonavla, surrounded by nature and indulging in vegetable gardening.
In a special interview with IANS, marking the centenary of Guru Dutt's birth, his granddaughters, Gouri and Karuna Dutt, shared insights into his films, personal life, and hobbies.
When questioned about Guru Dutt's reputed workaholic nature, Gouri stated, "He tried his best to take breaks. During film shoots, he often mentioned in his letters that once he completed a project, it was time for a family getaway."
Karuna added, "We had a lovely farmhouse in Lonavala where my father (Guru Dutt’s son) created beautiful memories. It was a simple setup, not an extravagant bungalow. My grandfather, Guru Dutt, delighted in showing the children how to hatch chicks and had a great passion for growing vegetables. He aimed to ignite their curiosity about nature and life."
For those unfamiliar, Guru Dutt was a legendary filmmaker and actor active primarily in the 1940s and 1950s, celebrated for timeless classics such as ‘Pyaasa’, ‘Sahib Bibi Aur Ghulam,’ ‘Chaudhvin Ka Chand,’ and ‘Mr. & Mrs. 55’. Tragically, he passed away at just thirty-nine, but his films gained a cult following posthumously.
In honor of Guru Dutt's 100th birth anniversary, six of his films, including 'Pyaasa', 'Baaz', and 'Chaudhvin Ka Chand', have been restored and are being showcased in theaters across India.
