Mumbai, Aug 12 (NationPress) Guru Dutt, a legendary filmmaker and actor in the Hindi film industry, has captivated audiences with the mysteries surrounding his personal life and relationships. In a special interview with IANS to mark the centenary of Guru Dutt's birth, his granddaughters, Gouri and Karuna Dutt, shared insights about his cinematic legacy, personal interests, and more.
When asked about Geeta Dutt's whereabouts following their separation, Karuna revealed that she remained in Mumbai, living in a different residence. Upon further inquiry regarding their communication post-separation, Karuna explained, “In the early days of his career, he would pen letters to her whenever he ventured outside Mumbai for film scripts or location scouting. In those letters, he would assure our Dadiji (Geeta Dutt) that he would return soon and they would take a holiday together, among other sentiments.”
She went on to say, “During their separation, he maintained contact with her via telephone.”
For those unfamiliar, Guru Dutt was a prominent filmmaker and actor, primarily active during the 1940s and 1950s. He is celebrated for his unforgettable films such as ‘Pyaasa’, ‘Sahib Bibi Aur Ghulam’, ‘Chaudhvin Ka Chand’, ‘Mr. & Mrs. 55’, and others. Tragically, he passed away at the young age of thirty-nine. His films achieved a cult following posthumously. He met the acclaimed playback singer Geeta Dutt on the set of ‘Baazi’ and subsequently married her.
To honor Guru Dutt’s 100th birth anniversary, six of his films, including Pyaasa, Baaz, Chaudhvin Ka Chand, and Mr. & Mrs. 55, have been restored and are being screened in theaters throughout India.
