Mumbai, Oct 24 (NationPress) The advertising industry has lost a true icon, Piyush Pandey, who played a pivotal role in defining the unique essence of Indian advertising. He passed away at the age of 70 on Thursday. Filmmaker Hansal Mehta and musician Ehsaan Noorani expressed their sorrow over the passing of this visionary who transformed the landscape of advertising in India.
Hansal took to X and expressed, “Fevicol ka jod toot gaya. The ad world lost its glue today. Go well Piyush Pandey.”
Ehsaan also paid tribute, stating that Piyush redefined creativity in the advertising sector.

Piyush Pandey served as an advertising professional and was the Executive Chairman of Ogilvy India. He was honored with the LIA Legend Award and the Padma Shri award. He is credited with instilling a distinctive indigenous influence on Indian advertising, which was formerly dominated by western ideas.
His advertising journey began in 1982 when he joined Ogilvy. Some of his remarkable campaigns include Luna moped, Fevicol, Cadbury, and Asian Paints. Within three years, he advanced to the role of creative director and subsequently national creative director.
Piyush was born in Jaipur and had siblings that include film director Prasoon Pandey and singer-actor Ila Arun. He also played Ranji Trophy cricket for Rajasthan and once worked as a tea taster.
Among his most notable campaigns were the BJP’s 2014 election initiative “Abki Baar Modi Sarkar” featuring the memorable tagline “Achche Din Aane Wale Hain,” the Polio awareness campaign with Amitabh Bachchan, “Chal Meri Luna,” “Googly Woogly Woosh,” the Bell Bajao initiative, the anti-smoking campaign for the Cancer Patients Association, and the Khushboo Gujarat Ki tourism campaign, to name a few.
Piyush Pandey made history as the first Asian jury president at the Cannes Film Festival in 2004 and later received the CLIO Lifetime Achievement Award.
