Los Angeles, June 12 (NationPress) Reality star Helen Flanagan once found herself the target of bullying during her school years because of her role in the show ‘Coronation Street’.
The actress began her TV journey at the age of nine when she took over from Emma Collinge as Rosie Webster in 2000. This newfound fame, however, attracted the envy of her classmates, leading to significant torment, as reported by ‘Female First UK’.
Helen managed to escape the harassment when her parents, Julia Flanagan and Paul Flanagan, decided to enroll her in a private girls' school.
According to ‘Female First UK’, Helen, who portrayed her character on the ITV1 soap for nearly 18 years, shared with the Daily Star's Hot TV column, “I did struggle with a lot of bullying in my first school because I was on ‘Coronation Street’. I really faced a lot of picking on. My parents then moved me to a private girls' school.”
Now 34, the TV star, who is a mother to daughters Matilda, nine, and Delilah, six, as well as a son Charlie, three, with her former partner Scott Sinclair, expressed that the bullying she faced makes her anxious as a mother.
She remarked, “Given how much I was bullied, I worry as a mom. My little girl is a sweetheart and quite sensitive, just like me.”
Previously, Helen has expressed a keen interest in returning to Weatherfield, the fictional town in Salford, Greater Manchester, where ‘Coronation Street’ is set, envisioning Rosie as one of the pub's “iconic” barmaids.
In an interview with The Sun on Sunday, she stated, “I’d love to see Rosie return as a single mom who just left her partner. She would leave her two kids with Sally and I believe she would become an iconic barmaid at the Rovers Return. Especially since I’ve relocated back up north now.”
Additionally, the actress noted that taking the time to enhance her appearance helps her feel more like her own person, rather than solely identified as her children’s mother.
