Mumbai, Nov 24 (NationPress) Actress Hema Malini and her daughter Esha Deol were seen with their hands clasped together in reverence. They were photographed in their vehicle outside the Pawan Hans crematorium located in the Vile Parle area of Mumbai following the cremation of Dharmendra.

The crematorium was filled with notable figures from the industry paying their respects. The esteemed actor had recently been hospitalized at Breach Candy Hospital in South Mumbai but was discharged after showing signs of improvement. He was recuperating at his residence in Juhu. Despite his recovery phase, he had been placed on a ventilator due to respiratory issues, leading to his passing on Monday.

As news of his demise circulated through Bollywood, many industry colleagues gathered to honor him. Notable personalities such as Aamir Khan and Abhishek Bachchan arrived at the crematorium, and Karan Johar shared heartfelt memories of the late actor on social media. Family members also attended the service.

Dharmendra was celebrated as one of the most enduring and cherished stars of Bollywood. Born in 1935 in Punjab, he commenced his career in the early 1960s after being discovered through a nationwide talent competition. This contest, organized by Filmfare magazine and Bimal Roy Productions, sought new faces for Hindi cinema.

Dharmendra triumphed in the competition in 1958, recognized for his captivating looks and genuine charisma. This win paved his way into the film industry, with the same contest later discovering Rajesh Khanna, a major superstar in Hindi cinema.

He swiftly gained fame due to his charming appearance, emotional range, and natural screen presence. His ability to adapt across genres allowed him to shine in romance, action, and comedy. Iconic films such as ‘Phool Aur Patthar’, which solidified his status as a leading man, and ‘Sholay’, where he portrayed the lovable and witty Veeru, remain legendary.

Additionally, Dharmendra was honored with the Padma Bhushan, India's third-highest civilian award.
