Mumbai, Feb 4 (NationPress) Director Rajkumar Hirani, whose recent film ‘Dunki’ featuring Shah Rukh Khan and Taapsee Pannu garnered extensive acclaim from audiences, expressed his surprise upon learning that the concept for his film ‘PK’ had also been claimed by another creator.

This revelation came during his appearance on senior trade analyst Komal Nahta's podcast ‘Game Changers’. The podcast delves into engaging discussions with Hirani, where he shares intriguing anecdotes from behind the scenes regarding his creative approach and the hurdles of producing films that maintain their originality long after debut.

When queried by Nahta about the pressure of keeping ideas innovative for a film, Hirani reminisced about the path of PK, one of his most celebrated works. He remarked, “Yes, we remember writing PK and we were very happy that we had written a unique idea that was nowhere else.”

Nevertheless, the joy swiftly turned into anxiety when someone alerted them to a notable resemblance with another movie.

He elaborated, “Someone told us that this film has been written by someone else, and when we went and saw it, we were shocked. If we made this, people would say it’s copied, so we were worried.”

The team dedicated a month to strategizing solutions for the dilemma, feeling uncertain about their next steps. A turning point arrived when he recounted, “One day Abhijat came and said that we show it like this, that he is looking for God and not finding him, so he files a court case. I said, 'This is interesting, let’s develop it’.”

Yet, the difficulties continued. The director and his crew later unearthed that another film, ‘OMG – Oh My God!’, was tackling a similar theme.

He shared, “Then we had to leave that idea.”
