Los Angeles, Nov 20 (NationPress) The critically acclaimed streaming series and prequel to the legendary ‘Game of Thrones’, ‘House of the Dragon’, is officially confirmed to return with a fourth season.

The anticipated new season is set to debut on OTT platforms in 2028. Meanwhile, the third season of this prequel is expected to premiere in the summer of 2026, as reported by ‘Variety’.

The announcement regarding the renewal was made during an HBO press conference in New York, where CEO Casey Bloys also revealed that the other ‘Game of Thrones’ prequel, ‘A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms’, has been renewed for a second season before its inaugural season launches on January 18.

According to ‘Variety’, the second season is projected for 2027, meaning that fans of the ‘Game of Thrones’ universe can expect new adventures from Westeros every year until 2028.

‘House of the Dragon’ is derived from George R. R. Martin’s ‘Fire & Blood’, chronicling the Targaryen family's saga two centuries prior to the events of ‘Game of Thrones’, specifically a few generations before Daenerys Targaryen's birth.

The series features a talented cast including Matt Smith, Emma D’Arcy, Olivia Cooke, Steve Toussaint, Rhys Ifans, Fabien Frankel, Ewan Mitchell, Tom Glynn-Carney, Sonoya Mizuno, Harry Collett, Bethany Antonia, Phoebe Campbell, Phia Saban, Jefferson Hall, Matthew Needham, James Norton, Tom Bennett, Kieran Bew, Kurt Egyiawan, Freddie Fox, Clinton Liberty, Gayle Rankin, and Abubakar Salim.

Ryan Condal serves as the creator and showrunner, with executive production shared by co-creator Martin, Sara Hess, Melissa Bernstein, Kevin de la Noy, Vince Gerardis, David Hancock, and Philippa Goslett.
