Los Angeles, Dec 30 (NationPress) British actor Idris Elba is set to receive a knighthood in the U.K. as he heads the prestigious list of honorees for the 2026 New Year celebrations.

Following a remarkably busy year, where he humorously portrayed both the U.S. president and British prime minister in the respective films ‘House of Dynamite’ and ‘Heads of State’, Elba is being recognized for his significant contributions to charity work, particularly for his anti-knife crime initiative and the foundation he established with his wife, according to reports from ‘Variety’.

Another notable accolade was awarded to comedian, writer, and actor Meera Syal. On the screen, Cynthia Erivo received an MBE (Member of the British Empire), with the star of ‘Wicked: For Good’ expressing her astonishment at receiving such an honor.

As per ‘Variety’, OBE (Order of the British Empire) honors were bestowed upon Richard Osman, the author of ‘Thursday Murder Club’ and TV host, along with comedian Matt Lucas, writer Roy Clarke, actor Sally Lindsay, comedian Bill Bailey, children’s TV celebrity Paul Chuckle, and Warwick Davis.

“This is the greatest achievement of my life, and I’ve starred in Star Wars,” Warwick remarked. Alongside the usual array of politicians, activists, and athletes, other honorees in the annual New Year list included singers Ellie Goulding and Eve Graham, TV chef Marcus Wareing, reality TV presenter Phil Spencer, sports presenter Gabby Logan, and soccer commentator Clive Tyldesley.

Idris Elba is renowned for his powerful screen presence and undeniable charm.
