Indore, January 3 (NationPress) - The Madhya Pradesh government, under the leadership of Chief Minister Mohan Yadav, has appointed Kshitij Singhal, an IAS officer from the 2014 batch, as the new Commissioner of Indore Municipal Corporation on Saturday.

A formal notification regarding the appointment of Singhal was released by State Chief Secretary Anurag Jain.

Singhal succeeds Dilip Kumar Yadav, who was transferred from Indore last Friday.

This change comes on the heels of Chief Minister Yadav's decision to suspend Indore's Additional Commissioner Rohit Sisoniya and Sanjeev Shrivastava, the Superintendent Engineer in charge of the Public Health Engineering department.

In related news, the Indore district administration commenced a survey on Thursday to assess the water quality supplied via tankers in the Bhagirathpura area. This area has recently witnessed a tragic incident where contaminated water resulted in the deaths of several individuals, with over 200 patients currently hospitalized across various facilities in the city.

The district administration teams are not only conducting thorough water quality checks but are also engaging the residents of Bhagirathpura in an awareness campaign about the importance of using safe drinking water. This initiative is especially crucial for protecting vulnerable groups, such as children and senior citizens, who have been most impacted by the recent water supply crisis in Indore.

District Collector Shivam Verma has spearheaded the awareness and inspection effort, which began early Saturday morning and will continue throughout the day.

Officials are conducting door-to-door visits to inspect water stored in both underground and rooftop tanks within the area.

District Collector Verma stated in an interview with IANS that multiple teams have been mobilized for the door-to-door inspections in Bhagirathpura.

Ongoing close monitoring is being carried out in the areas most affected.

"Our team is actively investigating. In cases where food poisoning has been reported and patients have tested positive, we have instructed all relevant departments to conduct comprehensive inspections in the vicinity. We are also reviewing our water supply lines," Verma informed IANS.

Furthermore, Verma noted that patients currently hospitalized are receiving improved treatment and many are showing signs of recovery.

As of Friday, the condition of two out of the 27 patients in the ICU was critical, but they have since shown signs of recovery.

More than 200 individuals are receiving care in over 30 hospitals, both public and private, throughout Indore.

Additionally, over 22 teams of medical personnel are conducting health check-ups through camps in the Bhagirathpura region.
