Exploring the Depths of Imtiaz Ali's 'Main Vapas Aaunga' Featuring Diljit Dosanjh
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Mumbai, April 16 (NationPress) Renowned Indian filmmaker Imtiaz Ali has revealed intriguing insights into his forthcoming movie 'Main Vapas Aaunga'. He shared his perspectives with IANS during the film's promotional activities, which features Diljit Dosanjh in the lead role.
'Main Vapas Aaunga' represents the second partnership between the director and Diljit Dosanjh. The film takes place in the turbulent period following the Partition of India, an event that marked the largest mass migration in human history, resulting in the separation of Pakistan from India and the displacement of an estimated 14 to 18 million people.
Discussing the subtle elements of the film, Imtiaz remarked to IANS, “We have employed specific lensing techniques and production design approaches. Memories often appear cleaner in our minds, with fewer details than what actually existed. Therefore, we designed the production to reflect this. We selected faces that convey how individuals might have looked in 1947 and styled them accordingly, collaborating closely with our team, including Shoma and the look team, as well as Sheetal and the costume team, using numerous references to recreate the appearances seen in vintage photographs from that era.”
The director indicated that the research process yielded several fascinating discoveries that shaped the film's narrative structure.
He elaborated, “Our research unveiled surprising facts that contrasted with our expectations. For example, people were more westernized than they are today, as they were influenced by their connections to the West. They enjoyed English music, a detail evident in older films, characterized by distinct music styles and hairstyles. We pursued this aspect. Additionally, the light associated with memories carries a unique hue, which we emphasized in our film. We even explored the availability of dyes from that era to ensure authenticity in the clothing we designed.”
“All these components come together to create a singular frame. We adopted specific lensing techniques to evoke the feeling of personal memories. By utilizing lenses and custom filters, we transported elements from the past into the present,” he added.
Produced by Sameer Nair and Deepak Segal of Applause Entertainment, along with Mohit Choudhary and Shibasish Sarkar of Window Seat Films, 'Main Vapas Aaunga' is slated for a theatrical release on June 12, 2026.
