Mumbai, February 19 (NationPress) - Actress Ishita Dutta has candidly shared a video on her social media where she discusses managing toddler meltdowns, specifically the emotional outbursts of her two-and-a-half-year-old son, Vayu.

The actress emphasized the need for a balanced approach to parenting, suggesting that while gentle parenting is important, it’s also crucial for parents to maintain their calm during tantrums and not to feel guilty if they occasionally break down themselves.

Reflecting on her journey, she shared, “Vayu, at this age, has shown significant changes in his personality. He desires independence in simple tasks like eating, dressing, and putting on his shoes. However, his limitations often lead to frustration and subsequent meltdowns.”

She elaborated, “I’ve tried various methods—yelling, strictness, being overly sweet, and even crying alongside him. Yet, I’ve come to understand that when a meltdown occurs, there’s little that can be done except to be present. I reassure him by saying, 'It’s okay, mama is here,' and allow the moment to pass.”

Additionally, she mentioned, “I provide him with choices instead of doing everything for him. For example, I ask if he wants me to feed him or cut his food into smaller pieces. This way, he feels acknowledged and independent, while I still guide him. It’s essential to be patient and understand that it may take time for him to learn. Sometimes, it’s acceptable to yield to a tantrum, not as a defeat, but as a strategy to discuss the situation later when he is calm.”

The Drishyam actress noted, “Some days, I manage his temper well, and on others, I do not. And that’s perfectly fine. I hope my experience can be helpful to someone. This challenging phase affects both the child and the parents.”

On a personal note, Ishita Dutta married actor Vatsal Sheth in 2017. They welcomed their first child, son Vayu, in 2023, and a daughter in 2025. Professionally, Ishita was last featured in Delhi De Pyaar De 2 alongside Ajay Devgn, Rajul Preet Singh, R Madhavan, and Gautami Kapoor, and is set to appear in the upcoming third installment of the Drishyam series.
