In his caption, Jackie simply expressed: “Remembering Parveen Babi (4 Apr 1954 - 20 Jan 2005).”

Parveen Babi was among the highest-paid actresses during the 1970s and early 1980s, celebrated for her glamorous acting style and fashion sense, often regarded as a sex symbol. She initiated her modeling career in 1971 and made her acting debut in 1972 with the film “Charitra.”

Her breakthrough came in 1974 with “Majboor,” but it was the 1975 blockbuster “Deewar” alongside Amitabh Bachchan that cemented her status. She starred in various successful films, including Amar Akbar Anthony, Suhaag, Kaala Patthar, The Burning Train, “Shaan”, Kranti, Kaalia, and “Namak Halaal.”

Her last appearance on screen was in the 1991 film Irada prior to her retirement.

Parveen Babi’s personal life has been widely chronicled. She remained unmarried after several relationships with Danny Denzongpa, Kabir Bedi, and Mahesh Bhatt. She battled paranoid schizophrenia, which became public knowledge due to various incidents, along with diabetes and osteoarthritis of the knee.

On January 20, 2005, Babi succumbed to multiple organ failure. Her body was discovered on January 22, 2005, after her residential society secretary notified the police about her uncollected groceries and newspapers over three days.

Authorities believed she had died up to 72 hours prior to the body discovery. The exact cause of her demise was initially unclear, but it was later revealed that she suffered from gangrene of the left foot, a complication of her diabetes. A wheelchair was found near her bed, along with disordered paintings, clothing, medications, and old newspapers.

A post-mortem examination indicated no food in her stomach, but alcohol—likely from her medication—was present. After ruling out foul play, police concluded that her death resulted from diabetes and complete organ failure.
