Synopsis
Key Takeaways
In a recent social media post, Jatin Kapoor, the grandson of legendary actor Prithviraj Kapoor, shared an intriguing account of how his grandfather prepared for the iconic role of ‘Shahenshah Akbar’ in the epic film Mughal-e-Azam. He delved into the dedication that went into perfecting the legendary 'Shahenshah wali chaal'.
Jatin recounted, “In the opening scene of Mughal-e-Azam, Shahenshah walks barefoot across the blazing desert sand. To master this walk, my grandfather rehearsed diligently. He would practice extensively on Juhu Beach in Mumbai, covering distances of 300 to 400 meters on the hot sand, enduring the intense heat.”
He went on to explain, “When we finally shot the scene, it came out just as envisioned. Even during close-ups where his feet weren’t visible, he insisted on going without slippers to maintain authenticity.”
Discussing the meticulous process of finalizing the walk, Jatin noted, “After many days of practice, he invited colleagues from Prithvi Theatre to observe his walk. He continued to refine it until someone remarked that it felt as if the Shahenshah himself was walking, not just Prithviraj Kapoor. Only then did he finalize that chaal.”
Highlighting his grandfather’s unparalleled dedication, he stated, “Prithviraj Kapoor portrayed numerous iconic roles during his lifetime. The stories of his preparation are equally remarkable. A true passion for one’s work can drive a person to extraordinary lengths; he literally sacrificed his comfort for his art.”
Jatin concluded with gratitude, saying, “Thank you all for listening. I will forever be appreciative of this.”
