Los Angeles, Oct 24 (NationPress) Hollywood star Jim Parsons, cherished for his portrayal of the quirky nerd Sheldon Cooper, still holds on to many special memories from his tenure on the iconic sitcom ‘The Big Bang Theory’.
Reflecting on the show, the 52-year-old actor shared with Us Weekly: “I remember our first season, after about seven or eight episodes, the writers went on strike and they told us we were going to go off. We wouldn’t be doing any more until it was over. And we were all so upset by it.”
“It certainly wasn’t the typical response of, ‘Oh God, my job,’” he continued. “We were already enjoying this show and truly felt we had something special, which scared us, as it could have meant an early end for the series.”
Despite this uncertainty, Parsons believes the show and his co-stars ultimately gained from the situation, as reported by femalefirst.co.uk.
The actor, who starred alongside Kaley Cuoco, Mayim Bialik, Johnny Galecki, Simon Helberg, Melissa Rauch, and Kevin Sussman, stated: “It ended up working very much in our favor.”
“More people got to watch us in reruns, and when we came back to it, it grew into a bigger phenomenon, but we had no idea at the time.”
He further reminisced: “Thinking back on that, we all sensed we were part of something special, and it felt like the oddities of the business could have derailed it, but we were fortunate.”
Parsons expressed skepticism about the possibility of a reboot, despite the show’s past success. When asked, he replied: “I can’t imagine. Well, I could imagine, but no, I imagine no.”
The series centers around five main characters residing in Pasadena, California — Leonard Hofstadter and Sheldon Cooper, both physicists at Caltech sharing an apartment; Penny, a waitress and aspiring actress living across the hall; and their equally geeky and socially inept friends and colleagues, aerospace engineer Howard Wolowitz and astrophysicist Raj Koothrappali.
As the show progressed, several supporting characters became essential to the narrative, including neuroscientist Amy Farrah Fowler, microbiologist Bernadette Rostenkowski, and comic book store owner Stuart Bloom.
