New Delhi, Oct 24 (NationPress) It is essential to enhance the regional biotech ecosystem throughout various states to bolster innovation and the economy, asserted Jitendra Singh, Union Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Science and Technology.

While presiding over a review meeting of the Department of Biotechnology (DBT), Singh evaluated current projects and new initiatives focused on expanding India's bio-innovation landscape.

He also examined a variety of new projects—from biofoundries and regional innovation hubs to ongoing efforts to map states based on their biotechnology potential—aimed at fortifying the nation's bioeconomy through innovation, collaboration, and local engagement.

“The necessity is to reinforce local biotechnology ecosystems by utilizing regional strengths and promoting enhanced collaboration with state governments and local stakeholders,” Singh remarked.

“India’s biotechnology sector has transformed into a crucial pillar of national development, playing a significant role in the country's economy through healthcare, agriculture, environment, and industrial innovation,” he added.

The Minister emphasized that the government's strategy aims to position biotechnology as a catalyst for economic and social transformation by connecting research institutions, startups, and state governments within a collaborative innovation ecosystem.

Singh pointed out that DBT’s endeavors in human physiology, metabolic research, and health technologies can greatly enhance the future of performance science in India, showcasing the synergy between biotechnology and sports to cultivate a stronger, healthier nation.

He further highlighted the significance of regional involvement in propelling the next stage of India’s bio-innovation initiative.

“The DBT has launched efforts to map states according to their biotech potential and to collaborate with them in establishing Bio E3 Cells—a component of the broader Bio E3 policy framework that underscores entrepreneurship, education, and empowerment in biotechnology,” the MoS stated.

The goal, he noted, is to synchronize national priorities with regional strengths, ensuring states can pinpoint their unique opportunities within the biotechnology value chain and nurture them through targeted interventions.
