India Enhances Critical Mineral Exploration and Startup Mining Ecosystem: Insights from Dr. Jitendra Singh
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
New Delhi, March 26 (NationPress) India is intensifying its initiatives to explore critical minerals, foster a startup ecosystem in mining, and establish robust domestic supply chains to minimize reliance on imports, as stated by Minister of State Dr. Jitendra Singh on Thursday.
During the governing body meeting of the National Mineral Exploration and Development Trust (NMET), the minister emphasized the importance of accelerating exploration efforts, particularly for vital minerals such as lithium, which are essential for advanced technologies.
"India is actively working on enhancing the exploration of critical minerals, developing a startup-centered mining ecosystem, and establishing strong domestic value chains to reduce import reliance," Singh remarked.
He pointed out the necessity for India to align its exploration strategies with global market demands and its own strategic requirements.
Singh highlighted ongoing projects in areas like the Siwana belt in Rajasthan and the Salal–Haimna block in Jammu and Kashmir, advocating for the expansion of such initiatives into additional promising regions.
"Creating a favorable environment for Indian companies and startups to engage in the mining and critical minerals sector is crucial," the minister asserted.
Referencing the success of the biotechnology startup ecosystem, he suggested that similar institutional support, focused incentives, and guidance mechanisms could foster innovation in mining technologies and exploration practices.
Dr. Singh emphasized the significance of enhancing the capabilities of private exploration agencies for the long-term development of the sector.
The government is also prioritizing the acceleration of project timelines by streamlining approval processes and addressing challenges like forest clearances that often hinder exploration activities.
He mentioned that improved coordination among various authorities will be vital for sustaining progress.
"Swift approvals, efficient procurement systems, and timely pre-exploration clearances are essential to sustain momentum in exploration initiatives," the minister highlighted.
Furthermore, he stated, "Reducing import dependence necessitates the establishment of comprehensive domestic supply chains, encompassing processing and value addition."
