How Are Kanika Mann and Binnu Dhillon Bringing Zombies to Punjabi Cinema with ‘Jombieland’?

Mumbai, May 5 (NationPress) Kanika Mann and Binnu Dhillon are poised to revolutionize Punjabi cinema with “Jombieland” — India’s inaugural full-scale Punjabi zombie comedy.

Joining the duo is Angira Dhar in this quirky film that fuses horror and humor. The creators have released the official first-look poster of the movie, featuring the lead actors Kanika, Binnu, and Angira in an adrenaline-pumping scene battling zombies. The poster offers an electrifying glimpse of the distinctive mix of horror and comedy that awaits audiences in this pioneering Punjabi zom-com.

On discussing the film, Binnu Dhillon mentioned, “The audience's preferences are rapidly changing — they now seek innovative ideas, humor, and captivating storytelling. With Jombieland, we’ve crafted something genuinely one-of-a-kind — the first-ever Punjabi zombie apocalypse film, a full-fledged ‘zom-com.’ I’m always attracted to novel challenges, and portraying a character in a village overrun by zombies was precisely that — vastly different and immensely enjoyable.”

Kanika Mann expressed, “Jombieland is an exhilarating journey — it’s raw, emotionally charged, and filled with nail-biting action. I’ve never encountered a zombie apocalypse narrative depicted through the lens of Punjabi culture, which is precisely what makes this film extraordinary. My character is a warrior, someone who transforms with every obstacle, and bringing her to life was both liberating and intense.”

Elaborating on her excitement for the project, Angira Dhar shared, “From the instant I learned about the concept — zombies in Punjab — I was captivated. Jombieland transcends a mere horror-action film; it’s a survival tale steeped in emotion, community, and resilience. Jombieland, acclaimed as India’s first comprehensive Punjabi zombie comedy (zom-com), is penned and directed by Thaparr. The film will transport viewers to a lively village thrown into upheaval by the lethal Z1N1 virus, which instigates a sudden zombie outbreak. Amidst this turmoil, the narrative focuses on Jeeti and Koko, two lovers encountering familial opposition to their relationship. However, their quest for love soon evolves into a struggle for survival.

Featuring Guri, Dhanveer Singh, and Jassa Dhillon, the film is scheduled for theatrical release on June 13, 2025. Produced by Neeraj Ruhil and Subhav Sharma under the banner of Next Level Productions, the film will be available in five languages: Punjabi, Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, and Malayalam.
