Mumbai, Nov 21 (NationPress) Renowned actor Kamal Haasan expressed his thoughts on the status of Independent cinema in India during his participation at the 56th International Film Festival of India (IFFI) in Goa.
In a conversation with IANS, the veteran star commented on the ongoing challenges faced by Independent cinema in establishing its presence.
Haasan emphasized that independent cinema is as unrestrained as India itself, urging not to restrict it within the narrow confines of commercial cinema.
He stated, "Independent cinema is truly independent; it should not be limited to the very restrictive realm of commercial cinema. It is as free as India."
Earlier, Haasan congratulated the team behind Sivakarthikeyan and Sai Pallavi's film Amaran, which has been chosen as the opening feature in the Indian Panorama section at the 56th IFFI.
Sharing a poster of Rajkumar Periasamy's direction on his X (formerly Twitter) account, a proud Kamal Haasan remarked, "I am honored to share the legendary story of Major Mukund Varadarajan that touched the heart of India and will resonate globally (sic)."
He further noted, "I am thrilled to announce that #Amaran has been nominated for the Golden Peacock Award in the International Competition and will premiere as the opening feature in the Indian Panorama section at the 56th International Film Festival of India, Goa.
