Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Mumbai, April 15 (NationPress) - The acclaimed 24-time Grammy winner Kanye West, now known as Ye, has made the exclusive decision to postpone his concert in Marseille until further notice.
This announcement comes on the heels of French Interior Minister Laurent Nuez's declaration that the government is considering actions to prevent him from performing in the city.
Kanye took to X, previously known as Twitter, stating: “After considerable reflection, I have decided to postpone my show in Marseille, France until further notice.”
He further expressed, “I recognize that it may take time for people to grasp the depth of my commitment to reconciliation.”
Kanye emphasized that his fans are paramount to him and that he accepts full accountability for his actions. He stated, “I take full responsibility for what’s mine, but I do not wish to place my fans in a difficult position. They mean everything to me. I am eager for the upcoming shows. See you at the pinnacle of the globe.”
The mayor of Marseille, Benoit Payan, publicly opposed West's performance earlier on March 4.
In a post on X, Payan declared: “I will not allow Marseille to become a platform for those who spread hatred and unapologetic Nazism. Kanye West is not welcome at the Vélodrome, our sanctuary of unity and inclusivity for all Marseillais.”
According to reports from Le Monde, it has been indicated that France’s top administrative court stipulates that local authorities can only prohibit a concert under strict circumstances, particularly if the event’s statements could lead to criminal offenses and jeopardize public order.
Additionally, Kanye was denied entry to the UK on April 7 after being scheduled to headline the Wireless Festival in London this July.
Prime Minister Keir Starmer remarked that West “should never have been invited to perform” due to his history of antisemitic remarks.
Kanye's next performance is set to take place in New Delhi, India on May 23.
