Mumbai, October 24 (NationPress) - The esteemed Bollywood actress and parliamentarian Jaya Bachchan has frequently made news due to her interactions with the paparazzi. Many fans have described her demeanor towards them as “not very friendly” and “rather aloof”.

However, during the recent Filmfare Awards in Ahmedabad, renowned director and producer Karan Johar, who has known Jaya Bachchan since his birth, publicly defended her during the event. While introducing her on stage, Karan declared, 'Let's give a big round of applause for the one and only Jaya Bachchan Aunty.'

While presenting her with the Cine Icon Award, Karan remarked, “I apologize for this silliness, but we see you as our mother. This is something Shah Rukh and I are proud to do for you. We are more delighted than you. God bless you, and thank you very much.” He affectionately added, “I have the privilege to call her Aunty J. She is like a mother to me. She has known me since my childhood. I even had the fantastic opportunity to direct Aunty Jaya. Her legacy is immense, but above all, it's her warm heart that everyone should acknowledge, especially the paparazzi.”

Karan's comments, particularly aimed at the paparazzi, caused Jaya to laugh heartily. For those unaware, Jaya Bachchan has been connected to the Johar family even before Karan Johar's birth, having worked on several projects with Karan's father, Yash Johar. Throughout her career, she has played pivotal roles in significant films like Kabhi Khushi Kabhi Gham and Kal Ho Naa Ho, produced by Dharma Productions, Karan Johar's company.

On that same stage, while accepting her award, Jaya Bachchan made a compelling statement, voicing her long-standing concerns about the industry's identity. She urged everyone to refrain from using the term 'Bollywood' for the film industry and instead recognize it for what it genuinely represents. 'This is not Bollywood or Hollywood. Many individuals here – actors, artists, writers, directors, and the audience – refer to it as Bollywood. Please stop doing this. This is the Hindi-Indian film industry, and it deserves its proper respect. This is a plea from someone who has been in this industry for 55 years.'

The actress, known for her role in “Guddi”, expressed her gratitude for the recognition, stating, “Thank you for all the love and kindness.”

I accept this award with utmost humility. Thank you. The award was presented to Jaya Bachchan by Shah Rukh Khan and Karan Johar.
