Los Angeles, Dec 20 (NationPress) Actress Kate Winslet has opened up about her journey into directing. Initially, she had no intention of becoming a director, but her perspective shifted after reading her son’s debut script.
The renowned actress, who had never envisioned directing, experienced a change of heart upon reading Goodbye June, the first script penned by her son Joe Anders, according to reports from ‘Female First UK’.
At 50, Kate, who shares her son with her ex-husband Sir Sam Mendes, expressed to Sky News, “I’m immensely impressed and proud of him, especially since he wrote this screenplay starting at just 19. He had to adapt quickly and grasp that developing a project involves taking notes and feedback.”
She added, “At some point, Netflix got involved, offering their own notes, and I found myself in the position of protecting both the project and him from feedback that might not have been beneficial, alongside ideas that were genuinely fantastic.”
As reported by ‘Female First UK’, the new film features esteemed actors such as Dame Helen Mirren, Timothy Spall, Andrea Riseborough, and Johnny Flynn.
Kate noted that her acting background significantly aided her in her new directorial role. She stated, “We understand what works for us as actors from a director, what doesn’t work, and what can be actively harmful. Film sets are often hectic places. It’s crucial for me that everyone feels absolutely safe, fully informed, and free.”
In addition, Kate recently shared her thoughts on the ongoing intrigue surrounding Titanic, describing it as “curious.” She co-starred with Leonardo DiCaprio in the iconic 1997 romantic-disaster film, and finds it peculiar that her remarks about Titanic often overshadow her discussions about newer projects.
When asked if she grows weary of questions regarding the record-setting film, Kate responded during an interview with 60 Minutes, “Not at all! What I find curious is that whatever I say about Titanic often becomes the main takeaway.”
She feels that her comments about Titanic continue to eclipse the insights she wishes to share about her more recent work.
