Kiran, previously married to superstar Aamir Khan, began her career as an assistant director on the iconic film Lagaan, directed by Ashutosh Gowariker, whom she also assisted later on Swades: We, the People.
Before her work on Lagaan, she had a small role as a supporting actress in Dil Chahta Hai. Additionally, she served as a second assistant director under Academy Award-nominated director Mira Nair on the indie hit Monsoon Wedding.
