New Delhi, April 15 (NationPress) Actress Kritika Kamra, who embarked on her acting career in 2007 with the television series ‘Yahaan Ke Hum Sikandar’ and made her film debut in 2018 with ‘Mitron’, expresses that she doesn’t allow the burden of expectations to affect her in an industry she labels as “extremely volatile.”
When questioned about how she copes with the pressure of expectations in a constantly changing industry, Kritika shared with IANS: “I don’t. This is an extremely volatile industry. There’s no blueprint, no guarantees, no set of rules. There are way too many pressures already.”
The actress emphasized that the only expectations that hold significance for her are her own.
“I hold myself to high standards. I know my reasons for being an actor, I’m dedicated to learning, and I strive to do the right thing even when no one’s watching. As long as I’m true to myself, I’m fine. I make an effort to not focus on what I’m expected to appear as and what my success is supposed to look like. I’m carving my own path one project at a time,” she stated.
What has astonished her the most about the film industry since the start of her career?
“I’m surprised at how everything changes but also nothing does. In more than a decade of my acting journey, I’ve witnessed stories and commerce evolve over time, but hierarchies and issues persist as they were,” she remarked.
Kritika believes that while storytelling has received more global recognition, the power dynamics within the industry largely remain unchanged.
“We’re sharing more progressive narratives now and garnering global attention, but the power structures in the industry are still rigid. There is merely a perception of democracy,” said the actress.
“We say the audience is king and they can make or break you, but it’s still a select few individuals deciding what reaches the audience and how. So, it’s like everyone is aware that the game is rigged, but we participate anyway, hoping for a more equitable and fair industry someday,” she added.
Born in Bareilly, Uttar Pradesh, Kritika gained fame with her role as Arohi in the beloved TV show “Kitani Mohabbat Hai”. She subsequently starred in series such as Kuch Toh Log Kahenge and Reporters.
She transitioned to films with Mitron and has since appeared in projects like Bheed. The actress also showcased her talent in the digital arena with Tandav, Hush Hush, and Bambai Meri Jaan.
