Regarding Matka King, the film also features Vijay Varma. Directed by Nagraj Manjule, known for Sairat and Fandry, Matka King unfolds in the gritty backdrop of 1960s Mumbai.
This film is expected to narrate the journey of an ambitious cotton trader in Mumbai who introduces a new gambling game named Matka, captivating the city and opening a field that was once exclusive to the affluent.
For those unfamiliar, the original Matka involved betting on the opening and closing prices of cotton traded between the New York Cotton Exchange and the Bombay Cotton Exchange. However, during the 1960s, this practice evolved into other methods of generating random numbers, including the use of a matka.
The ensemble cast includes Sai Tamhankar, Gulshan Grover, and Siddharth Jadhav in key roles, among others. The screenplay has been penned by Abhay Koranne and Nagraj Manjule, produced by Siddharth Roy Kapur and Manjule, along with Gargi Kulkarni, Ashish Aryan, and Ashwini Sidwani under the banner of Roy Kapur Films.
