Mumbai, April 18 (NationPress) A legal complaint has been filed against Bollywood actors Sunny Deol, Randeep Hooda, Vineet Kumar Singh, and director Gopichand Malineni for allegedly offending religious sentiments through a scene featuring Lord Jesus Christ in their recent film “Jaat”.
The complaint has been lodged at the Sadar Police Station in Jalandhar. It falls under Section 299 of the BNS (Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita) for hurting religious sentiments, based on the statement from Vikalp Gold, a local resident of Pholriwal village in Jalandhar.
Previously, members of the Christian community protested outside the Police Commissioner’s office, claiming disrespect towards Lord Jesus Christ in Jaat, and submitted a memorandum requesting the filing of a case.
The police complaint alleges that the accused disrespected the religious feelings of Christians by depicting a scene similar to the crucifixion of Lord Jesus Christ in Jaat.
Reports indicate that a scene in the film portrays Randeep's character positioned beneath a crucifix inside a church, directly above the holy pulpit, as congregants are praying.
Directed by Gopichand Malineni, “Jaat” also features Vineet Kumar Singh and Regina Cassandra. Actress Urvashi Rautela has performed a dance number in the film.
On April 17, Sunny confirmed his return with a significant new role in 'Jaat 2'.
He shared on Instagram about “Jaat 2,” where he is set to reprise his titular role in the eagerly awaited sequel.
Along with the poster, Sunny captioned: “#Jaat on to a New Mission!#Jaat2.” The poster also featured the names of producers Naveen Yerneni, Ravi Shankar Y, and TG Vishwa Prasad, with Mythri Movie Makers continuing their support for the sequel. While Sunny Deol's return is confirmed, no additional cast details have been announced yet.
“Jaat,” which marked Sunny Deol's first pan-India action film, also represented the Hindi directorial debut of Gopichand Malineni. The film features Randeep Hooda as the main antagonist, supported by a cast that includes Regina Cassandra, Saiyami Kher, Vineet Kumar Singh, Prashant Bajaj, Zarina Wahab, and Jagapathi Babu in notable roles.
