Chennai, April 22 (NationPress) Director Lokesh Kanakaraj announced on Tuesday that he is taking a brief hiatus from all social media platforms until the promotions for his highly anticipated action spectacle, ‘Coolie’, featuring superstar Rajinikanth in the lead role, commence.
It is noteworthy that Sun Pictures, the studio behind the film, has confirmed that it will be released globally on August 14 of this year.
In a post on his X account, Lokesh Kanakaraj stated, "Hey everyone! I'm taking a small break from all social media platforms until the promotions for #Coolie begin. With love, Lokesh Kanakaraj."
The reason behind the acclaimed director’s decision to step back from social media remains unclear.
Regardless, the anticipation for his upcoming film continues to escalate.
It is worth mentioning that Lokesh Kanakaraj recently completed filming for this much-anticipated action entertainer and expressed that he will always treasure the incredible experience of creating this film.
‘Coolie’, anticipated to be an action thriller, will include a stellar cast alongside Rajinikanth, featuring renowned actors like Telugu superstar Nagarjuna, Kannada star Upendra, Malayalam star Soubin Shahir, and Tamil actor Sathyaraj. Notably, Bollywood star Aamir Khan is rumored to appear in a cameo role.
The film will also showcase actors Shruti Haasan, Rebe Monica John, and Junior MGR in significant parts.
The music will be composed by Anirudh Ravichander, with cinematography by Girish Gangadharan. Editing is handled by Philomin Raj, and it is produced by Kalanithi Maran's Sun Pictures.
The film has generated considerable excitement for several reasons, one being that it marks the reunion of actors Sathyaraj and Rajinikanth after nearly 38 years. Their last collaboration was in the blockbuster Tamil film ‘Mr Bharath’, which debuted in 1986, where Sathyaraj portrayed Rajinikanth's father. Interestingly, Sathyaraj had previously declined roles in several of Rajinikanth's earlier films like ‘Enthiran’ and ‘Sivaji’.
‘Coolie’, which represents Rajinikanth's 171st film, will focus on the theme of gold smuggling. It is intriguing to note that director Lokesh Kanakaraj has clarified that ‘Coolie’ will stand alone and will not be part of his Lokesh Cinematic Universe (LCU).
