Why Did Manoj Pahwa Call His TV Time a Golden Period?
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Mumbai, Dec 8 (NationPress) Acclaimed actor Manoj Pahwa, recognized for his roles in popular television series like Office Office, Bol Baby Bol, and Just Mohabbat, has shared insights on why the TV shows of the 1990s remain unforgettable. He attributes this nostalgia to the careful, creative approach and time invested in content during that period.
When asked about the lack of similar impact in modern shows, Manoj explained to IANS that the television industry's working methods have drastically transformed, resembling a factory setup.
“Today’s shows operate like factories. During our time in television, it was a golden period. We produced only four episodes monthly, with a weekly airing schedule. Each episode took around two to two and a half days to complete,” he noted.
“Producers and directors would schedule a 10-day block for filming. For instance, Just Mohabbat required us to create four episodes.”
He mentioned that this slower pace was beneficial for all involved.
“Writers had about 20 days to develop subsequent episodes. As actors, we also enjoyed breaks. The subjects were evolving, which is no longer the case,” said Manoj, who is set to appear in Netflix's Single Papa.
Manoj highlighted the literary depth and strong writing teams of that era, referencing adaptations of renowned authors like Munshi Premchand and Ghalib, as well as shows like Just Mohabbat, which delved into child-parent psychology.
“We don’t create those narratives anymore. Literature, including Munshi Premchand's tales and Ghalib's works, inspired us. Just Mohabbat explored child-parent dynamics, thanks to a talented team that included Kamanshu, Victor, Saurabh, and Anmol. Even Office Office suffered from this factory-like approach later on,” he stated.
Single Papa features Manoj Pahwa alongside Kunal Kemmu, Prajakta Koli, Neha Dhupia, and Ayesha Raza Mishra. The plot follows Gaurav Gehlot, a charming man-child whose emotional maturity is still developing.
His unexpected decision to adopt a child post-divorce leaves his family in shock, prompting them to reconsider his readiness for parenthood. The ensuing chaos reveals the challenges of raising a child when one is still figuring out their own life.
Single Papa is set to premiere on December 12 on Netflix.
