Los Angeles, July 26 (NationPress) - Renowned Hollywood actor Mark Hamill contemplated stepping away from acting before taking on the role in ‘The Long Walk’. At 73 years old, he admitted that by 2019, he was feeling a lack of inspiration and was seriously considering retirement.
It was his wife and agent who ultimately persuaded him against this decision, as reported by ‘Female First UK’.
In a recent interview with ‘Variety’, Hamill shared, “At this point in my career, I imagined I’d be spending my days with a metal detector, strolling along the beach, and playing with my dogs in the backyard. I told my agent, ‘You know what? I’m no longer motivated. I think I might just retire and focus on voiceovers.’ The only ones who disagreed were my agent and my wife, because, you know, it’s beneficial for me to be out of the house.”
‘The Long Walk’ is a dystopian horror film adapted from a novel by Stephen King, co-produced and directed by Francis Lawrence and written by JT Mollner.
According to ‘Female First UK’, the film follows a group of teenagers in a perilous contest where they must keep walking or face execution by a member of the military escort. Hamill portrays a character known only as the Major, the commanding officer overseeing the event, and he was attracted to this role due to his teenage experiences in Japan, where his school was adjacent to a U.S. military base.
He remarked, “I recognized who this guy is: I’ve witnessed it firsthand. I’d cross the parking lot and see the officers putting these recruits through their paces under the scorching sun, and it was just brutal.”
“If someone vomits, they make you consume it. It’s horrific,” he added.
