Los Angeles, June 1 (NationPress) Actor Mark Hamill has announced that he will not be returning to the Star Wars universe. Hamill is renowned for his role as Luke Skywalker in the original trilogy of films that launched the franchise.
In a recent interview with Variety, he shared insights about his future in the legendary sci-fi realm.
Having first appeared in A New Hope in 1977 alongside Harrison Ford and Carrie Fisher, Hamill expressed a lack of interest in continuing the saga.
He stated to ComicBook, “I am so grateful to George Lucas for allowing me to be part of that during its humble beginnings, when he referred to Star Wars as ‘the most expensive low-budget movie ever made’.”
He elaborated, “We never anticipated it becoming a lasting franchise and a significant part of pop culture. However, I feel my time has come. I appreciate my journey, but it’s time to focus on the future and the new characters.”
As reported by Variety, he humorously remarked that he “disappeared in (The Last Jedi), leaving my robes behind. There's simply no way I’ll return as a naked force ghost.”
Hamill’s last prominent appearance as Luke Skywalker was as a force ghost in 2019’s Episode IX – The Rise of Skywalker.
He also made brief appearances as Luke through de-aging and motion capture in The Mandalorian and The Book of Boba Fett. Star Wars: Episode IV – A New Hope became one of the most iconic films in cinema after its 1977 launch, leading to an endless series of spinoffs and follow-up films.
Currently, there have been a total of 12 films, including the original trilogy, along with numerous TV shows set within the Star Wars universe.
