Los Angeles, Oct 11 (NationPress) Mark Hamill, a veteran of nearly five decades in Hollywood, has shared his insights on the rising trend of AI actors in the film industry, a development that could significantly alter industry practices.

He raised crucial concerns regarding the ethical implications of AI, as reported by Variety.

When asked about Tilly Norwood, an AI-generated actress reportedly in discussions with talent agencies, he expressed, “It’s frightening. After I’m gone, will they approach my family, saying, ‘We’ll pay you a fortune so we can recreate him at age 28’ or whatever they plan to do?”

Hamill drew parallels to advertisements featuring deceased actors, such as Gene Kelly, questioning, “Would Gene have been comfortable endorsing a vacuum cleaner? I can’t say. There are too many unresolved issues.”

According to Variety, he also discussed his role in Mike Flanagan’s ‘The Life of Chuck’, which secured the Toronto International Film Festival Audience Award in 2024 before being picked up by Neon.

Hamill emphasized his continuous journey of transformation, stating, “The essence of a character actor is to vanish, allowing only the character to be seen.”

In Flanagan’s adaptation of Stephen King’s novella, Hamill portrays an aging accountant, marking a poignant and unexpected departure from his iconic roles like Luke Skywalker in the Star Wars franchise. The film, featuring Tom Hiddleston, Chiwetel Ejiofor, and Karen Gillan, delves into themes of memory, mortality, and the legacies we leave behind.

Before assuming roles as accountants and voicing cartoon villains, Hamill kept one of Hollywood's most significant secrets. During the filming of ‘The Empire Strikes Back’ in 1978, director Irvin Kershner confided in the actor about a script alteration.

“I’m going to disclose something. I know it. George Lucas knows it, and once I share it, you will too,” Hamill recalled Kershner saying. “So, if it leaks, we’ll know it’s you.”

The initial script had Darth Vader informing Luke Skywalker that Obi-Wan Kenobi was responsible for his father's death. However, Kershner revealed the revised line, “I am your father.”

Hamill remarked, “The challenge was maintaining that secret for over a year and a half.” He managed to keep it so well that Harrison Ford, sitting next to him at the premiere, turned and said, “You didn’t even tell me.”
