Los Angeles, Jan 8 (NationPress) The acclaimed Hollywood star Matt Damon has made a remarkable transformation in his physique. He has dropped to his high school weight for his next film, ‘The Odyssey’.
At the age of 55, the actor has embraced a gluten-free diet and rigorous training to embody the character of Odysseus, the legendary king of Ithaca, in Christopher Nolan’s upcoming action-fantasy film, now weighing in at 75 kg, according to reports from Female First UK.
In a recent episode of the New Heights podcast hosted by NFL stars Jason Kelce and Travis Kelce, Damon shared insights about his fitness regimen for the film, stating, “I was in really good shape. I lost a lot of weight. (Nolan) wanted me lean but strong. Due to a program with my doctor, I eliminated gluten from my diet. I usually weighed between 185 and 200, and I tackled this film at 167. I haven’t been that light since high school. It required extensive training and a highly disciplined diet.”
Damon also drew a parallel between working with trainers to sculpt his physique and the preparations required in professional sports. He remarked, “I can imagine what that's like for you guys, where it's part of your daily routine and job. You get into a rhythm and build your day around it. That’s the essence of physical preparation.”
Having eliminated gluten entirely, Damon stated, “I’m done. I’m gluten-free for everything. I found a gluten-free beer. It’s been such a long time since I had gluten that I can’t even tell if it’s good or not. So that’s a positive sign.”
In addition to losing weight, Damon also grew a beard for ‘The Odyssey’, which narrates the journey of Odysseus as he faces numerous obstacles, including monsters and gods, while striving to return home after the fall of Troy. Nolan specifically requested that Damon grow facial hair, as he prefers to avoid wigs and fake beards.
