Los Angeles, Feb 27 (NationPress) Hollywood star Matt Damon expressed interest in taking on the role of Jason Bateman in a potential 'Arrested Development' movie.

There have been aspirations for a cinematic continuation of the beloved sitcom, which originally aired for three seasons on Fox from 2003 to 2006, followed by a two-season revival on Netflix from 2013 to 2019, according to 'Female First UK'.

During an appearance on the 'Conan O'Brien Needs a Friend' podcast, Jason Bateman recounted, "I remember Matt Damon approaching me, possibly at a Golden Globes event or something similar, and I was thrilled to meet him, as he was a significant fan of 'Arrested Development'."

He continued, "He mentioned, 'I really believe I could play, since I hear you all are working on the movie, may I portray you?'"

According to 'Female First UK', the 56-year-old actor, known for his role as Michael Bluth, confirmed there was an actual proposal for a film, with creator Mitchell Hurwitz eager to include some big names.

Bateman recalled, "(He) was envisioning the plot of the 'Arrested Development' film to revolve around Hollywood's interest in creating a movie about the Bluth family, and we definitely couldn’t play ourselves since we’re not actors."

This scenario would lead to his character "on set, observing Matt Damon play Michael Bluth and feeling thrilled."

He also jokingly mentioned David Cross' character, Tobias, stating, "Naturally, David Cross would portray Tobias in the film as well, since he is an actor."

Nonetheless, Bateman maintained that there are no concrete plans to bring the film to fruition, expressing skepticism about its viability.

He stated, "I don’t think anyone cares; I believe it’s over."

Bateman remains active in the industry, having played a villainous role last year in the Netflix film 'Carry-On'.

He portrayed a mysterious individual who tries to coerce a TSA agent into allowing a hazardous package on a Christmas flight, enjoying the opportunity to portray a complex character.

He shared with The Hollywood Reporter, "I’m not your typical hardened criminal, so I’m pleased they allowed me to portray him as a regular guy. He wants to sabotage this plane, move on with his life, and return home for the holidays too."

Co-star Taron Egerton, who plays the TSA agent, believes Bateman's portrayal is more sinister due to him acting against type.

He elaborated, "It’s unusual because he appears to be quite safe, but underneath, he’s dreadful. Knowing Jason from his film roles in 'Arrested Development' and 'Ozark', it’s surreal to collaborate with him."
