Tim Burton Expresses Excitement About Reuniting with Johnny Depp

Los Angeles, Dec 2 (NationPress) Filmmaker Tim Burton is not keen on revisiting films such as Edward Scissorhands for any possible sequels. However, he is eager to collaborate once again with Hollywood star Johnny Depp, who portrayed the lead character in Edward Scissorhands.

The director was recently present at the Marrakech International Film Festival following the box office triumph of his latest movie Beetlejuice Beetlejuice, as reported by Deadline.

At the festival, he remarked, “I didn’t want to make a sequel to (Edward Scissorhands) because it felt like a one-off thing. I didn’t want to have a sequel for The Nightmare Before Christmas because that also felt like a one-off thing. Certain things are best left alone, and that for me is one of them.”

When asked about future collaborations with his frequent collaborator Johnny Depp, who has worked with him on multiple films including Corpse Bride, Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street, and Ed Wood, he stated, “Well, I’m sure there will be.” He added, “I never feel like, ‘Oh, I’m going to use this or that actor’. It generally depends on the project I’m involved with. That’s what filmmaking is all about: collaboration and sharing ideas with those around you.”

According to Deadline, Johnny Depp has been striving to revive his career following a lengthy and contentious legal dispute with actress and ex-wife Amber Heard, during which a jury unanimously ruled that he had been defamed.

After Heard filed an appeal against the verdict, both parties announced separately that the case had been settled, with the funds from Heard going to charity. This case arose from a 2018 Washington Post op-ed where Heard claimed to be a survivor of domestic violence without mentioning Depp by name. The Virginia case followed a different libel case in the U.K. regarding The Sun labeling Johnny Depp a “wife-beater,” where the judge ruled in favor of the publication in 2020, after which Depp was asked to resign from the Fantastic Beasts franchise.

Since then, the actor has made efforts to successfully rehabilitate his image in both Hollywood and among the general public. Recently, his second directorial project Modi, starring Al Pacino, was highlighted at Spain’s San Sebastian International Film Festival and later showcased at the Rome Film Festival, where he received a lifetime achievement award.
