Milind Soman's 86-Year-Old Mother Walks 30 km: The Secret to Her Fitness
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Mumbai, March 18 (NationPress) Renowned actor and fitness advocate Milind Soman has shared an intriguing detail about his elderly mother.
In a recent interview with IANS, Soman disclosed that his 86-year-old mother maintains a remarkably active lifestyle, revealing that she is capable of walking between 20 to 30 kilometers, hiking up mountains, and even skipping rope effortlessly.
Discussing her remarkable fitness, Soman emphasized that such activities should be considered routine for individuals of her age if they prioritize their health.
“Look at my mother. She’s 86 years old, and she still skips rope. She can hop and hike. She can comfortably manage 20-30 kilometers of walking,” he expressed to IANS.
While many are astonished by his mother’s vitality, Soman argues that it should not be viewed as extraordinary, but rather as a norm.
“People often say, ‘Oh, your mother is so incredible.’ I respond, yes, but that’s normal. Everyone at her age should be able to achieve this if they take care of themselves,” he stated.
The former supermodel, who recently celebrated his 60th birthday, also touched upon societal perceptions of aging and fitness.
He remarked that people frequently express surprise at his age due to society's preconceived notions about how someone in their sixties should appear.
“I believe I look like a typical 60-year-old. It’s merely a societal stereotype that those in their sixties should conform to a certain image,” he noted.
Milind explained that many individuals struggle with fitness today because modern lifestyles have distanced them from their natural physical capabilities, which should be integral to their daily lives.
“People have become disconnected from their own bodies. Over the past 50-60 years, with advancements in technology, we have been encouraged to abandon our inherent abilities,” he commented.
Talking about his own fitness journey, he shared that instead of depending on gyms, trainers, or strict diets, he integrates fitness into his daily life.
“I don’t go to the gym, I don’t have a trainer, and I don’t consult a nutritionist or dietitian. I determine what I need and weave that into my lifestyle,” he added.
He further highlighted that making active choices in everyday life can lead to significant impacts, using his personal experiences as an example.
“If there’s an elevator and stairs, I will opt for the stairs. Most of the time, I take the stairs, sometimes even three steps at a time. That’s my chance to exercise,” he shared.
“I dedicate about 10 to 12 minutes a day to exercise. It’s not about the workout; it’s about adopting a lifestyle. Living this way enables you to do anything, whether it’s running a marathon, climbing a mountain, or swimming long distances if you desire,” he remarked.
Having been part of the entertainment industry for over three decades, the actor is now preparing for his upcoming project, Kaattaan, alongside South superstar Vijay Sethupathi.
The show is set to premiere on the 27th of March on Jio Hotstar.
