Millie Bobby Brown's Enola Holmes 3 bridal gown inspired by her real wedding dress
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Hollywood actress Millie Bobby Brown has revealed that the bridal gown her character wears in Enola Holmes 3 was directly inspired by her own real-life wedding dress. The disclosure adds a personal layer to what is shaping up as one of the more anticipated costume moments in the franchise's third instalment.
The Real-Life Inspiration Behind the Costume
Brown, 22, married musician Jake Bongiovi in a private ceremony in May 2024, followed by a larger celebration in October 2024. When it came time to design the wedding look for Enola Holmes — who is set to marry Lord Tewkesbury, played by Louis Partridge — Brown drew directly from that personal experience.
Speaking in a beauty routine video for Allure, she said, 'I designed the first wedding look with our amazing designers on the film. Consolata Boyle, she's our amazing costume designer. We worked tirelessly on what that dress looked like and I took inspiration from my actual wedding dress.'
The Bridal Hairstyle That Nearly Fell Apart
Brown also had a hand in shaping Enola's bridal hairstyle, though the execution came with its own challenges. 'I knew I wanted to do two braids, one to symbolize me, one to symbolise Tewkesbury,' she explained. 'However, it's really hard to get that whole style in a wig. When I tell you my wig was hanging on by a thread because the weight of the bun and the braids was just trying to pull down, so it's very, very difficult to try and do that without the wig falling off constantly.'
The Dress She Refused to Leave Behind
While the first wedding gown in the film drew from Brown's own nuptials, it was the second — a simpler, loose-fitting dress — that she reportedly could not part with. According to reports, she quietly took it home for her personal wardrobe.
Bongiovi, who also serves as a producer on the film, recounted the moment: 'Millie came out of the car wearing that final wedding dress, and it looked so incredible. All the pieces looked absolutely stunning, but the final one, Millie said, 'I'm keeping this.''
Brown herself explained her reasoning: 'I can't not keep this. It's so beautiful, I'd wear this to any night out that I could because of the love and care that went into each stitch.'
Keeping Secrets on a Shared Set
The situation created an amusing dynamic given Bongiovi's dual role as husband and producer. Brown told Netflix's Tudum, 'The problem is he's my husband, but he's also producer on the movie, so I have to sometimes swear him to secrecy. I said, 'You cannot tell anyone I've done this'. They wound up finding out anyway.'
Notably, this is not the first time personal life has seeped into the Enola Holmes franchise for Brown, who has been closely associated with the character since the first film in 2020. With Enola Holmes 3 now in production, the costume details suggest the film will lean into a more intimate, character-driven tone for its central wedding arc.
