Reacting to this significant achievement, director Lakshmipriya Devi referred to it as a "tribute to my homeland."
On BAFTA's official Instagram page, a video captured Lakshmipriya Devi's acceptance speech, where she began with the traditional "Kurumjari" greeting, stating, "The journey to this point felt like the final steps to reach a summit of a mountain we never realized we were climbing. Thank you to the jury and BAFTA for showering our modest film with such affection."
She further elaborated that the film is deeply connected to her roots in Manipur, a region she characterized as troubled, overlooked, and underrepresented in India. "This film is not only based in a place that is facing significant challenges but also serves as an homage to my homeland. I hope for peace to return to Manipur," she concluded.
