New Delhi, Dec 29 (NationPress) Prime Minister Narendra Modi commended the Indian film and entertainment sector on Sunday for its remarkable contributions to the nation’s advancement and its role in promoting cultural unity under the theme of ‘Ek Bharat Shreshtha Bharat’.
In the 117th episode of his monthly radio program, ‘Mann Ki Baat’, PM Modi emphasized the worldwide influence of Indian cinema, stating, “The popularity of our animation films, regular films, and TV serials highlights the potential of India’s creative industry. This sector is not only making substantial contributions to the country's development but is also propelling our economy to new heights.”
PM Modi paid tribute to iconic figures from the Indian film industry, whose centennial celebrations will take place in 2024.
“Raj Kapoor ji introduced the world to India’s soft power through films. Mohammad Rafi Sahab’s enchanting voice continues to resonate with the younger generation even today. Akkineni Nageswara Rao Garu uplifted Telugu cinema by showcasing Indian traditions and values. Tapan Sinha ji’s films provided fresh societal insights while fostering social awareness and national unity,” he remarked.
“These legends serve as an inspiration for our entire film industry. Their enduring artistry and commitment have granted Indian cinema global acclaim,” he added.
PM Modi also mentioned the success of the popular children's animation series KTB Bharat Hai Hum, featuring characters Krish, Trish, and Baltiboy, which honors the unsung heroes of India's freedom struggle. He pointed out the series' multilingual availability, including foreign languages, and its airing on platforms such as Doordarshan and OTT channels.
“Season two of the series was uniquely launched at the International Film Festival of India in Goa,” he noted.
In announcing the inaugural World Audio Visual Entertainment Summit (WAVES) in India, PM Modi stated, “This summit will attract global media and entertainment leaders, alongside creative talents, to India. Just as Davos serves as a center for economic dialogues, the WAVES summit will establish India as a hub for global content creation.”
He underscored the eagerness of India’s young creators in preparing for the summit and its significance in the nation’s journey towards becoming a $5 trillion economy.
Encouraging participation, he said, “Whether you are a young creator, a seasoned artist, a Bollywood or regional cinema professional, or an expert in animation, gaming, or entertainment technology, I invite you to join the WAVES summit. This is a golden opportunity to showcase India’s creative potential to the world.”
