Raj Kapoor's Centenary: PM Modi Honors the Legacy of a Cinematic Icon

Mumbai, Dec 14 (NationPress) PM Narendra Modi has shared his reflections on Raj Kapoor. On Saturday, PM Modi took to his X account, formerly Twitter, to celebrate Raj Kapoor’s immense contributions to the cinematic world.

He posted a heartfelt note, stating, “Today, we commemorate the 100th birth anniversary of the legendary Raj Kapoor, a visionary filmmaker, actor, and the eternal showman! His brilliance transcended generations, leaving an indelible mark on both Indian and global cinema.”

PM Modi highlighted that Raj Kapoor’s love for cinema ignited in his youth, and he diligently worked to become a pioneering storyteller.

He added, “His films harmoniously blended artistry, emotion, and social commentary. They mirrored the aspirations and struggles of the common people. The iconic characters and unforgettable melodies from Raj Kapoor's films continue to resonate with audiences worldwide. People admire how his works effortlessly highlight diverse themes with excellence. The music from his films remains extraordinarily popular.”

“Shri Raj Kapoor was not merely a filmmaker but a cultural ambassador who showcased Indian cinema on the global stage. Generations of filmmakers and actors have a lot to learn from him. I once again pay my respects to him and acknowledge his contributions to the creative realm,” he remarked.

Previously, PM Modi discussed Raj Kapoor's global influence during a meeting with the Kapoor family in the national capital.

He noted, “In 1947, we released ‘Neel Kamal,’ and now as we approach 2047, marking a 100-year journey, it symbolizes the significant contributions of our vast nation. Today, in the diplomatic arena, there is extensive discussion about soft power. Back then, the term ‘soft power’ was nonexistent, yet Raj Kapoor had already showcased India’s strength in this domain on a global scale.”

December 14, 2024, will mark the centenary of Raj Kapoor, who is widely regarded as one of the most significant cinematic forces in India. He was born in Peshawar (now in Pakistan) and was the eldest son of actor Prithviraj Kapoor. Raj Kapoor starred in and produced numerous films that earned him multiple accolades, including three National Film Awards.
