Mumbai, Dec 11 (NationPress) Renowned Bollywood star Karisma Kapoor, famous for her roles in Andaz Apna Apna, Coolie No.1, and Raja Hindustani, had a special meeting with Prime Minister Narendra Modi in Delhi alongside her family, during which she received a signed autograph from the Prime Minister intended for her children.
On Wednesday, the actress took to her Instagram to share memorable moments from their encounter with the PM. The Kapoor family, often regarded as the foremost cinematic dynasty in Hindi cinema, met PM Modi in anticipation of commemorating the upcoming centenary of their illustrious patriarch Raj Kapoor, recognized as one of the most significant filmmakers and performers in Indian cinema history.
Karisma expressed her gratitude through a caption similar to that of her sister, Kareena Kapoor Khan. She stated, “We are genuinely humbled and privileged to have received an invitation from the Honourable Prime Minister, Shri Narendra Modi, to celebrate the extraordinary life and legacy of our grandfather, the iconic Raj Kapoor. Thank you, Shri Modi ji, for such a memorable afternoon. Your kindness, interest, and encouragement in honoring this significant occasion meant a lot to us.”
“As we mark 100 remarkable years of Dadaji’s creative brilliance, vision, and contributions to Indian cinema, we pay tribute to the enduring influence of his legacy, which continues to motivate us and future generations. We are excited to present his legendary films and acknowledge his influence on Indian cinema through the Raj Kapoor 100 Film Festival. Scheduled for Dec 13-15, 2024 | 10 films | 40 cities | 135 cinemas. #100YearsOfRajKapoor,” she added.
The centenary of Raj Kapoor will be observed on December 14, 2024. Born in Peshawar (now in Pakistan), he was the firstborn of actor Prithviraj Kapoor. Raj Kapoor was both an actor and producer, garnering numerous accolades including three National Film Awards.
His films, Awaara and Boot Polish, competed for the prestigious Palme d'Or award at the Cannes Film Festival in 1951 and 1955, respectively.
The Indian government honored him with the Padma Bhushan in 1971 for his remarkable contributions to the arts, and in 1988, he was awarded India’s highest cinematic honor, the Dadasaheb Phalke Award, by the Government of India.
Previously, the International Film Festival of India, co-hosted by the National Film Development Corporation of India (under the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting) and the Goa state government, recognized Raj Kapoor ahead of his centenary and invited Ranbir Kapoor to speak about his grandfather's legacy.
