Chennai, Jan 14 (NationPress) The production team behind the much-anticipated Malayalam film 'Drishyam 3', helmed by director Jeethu Joseph and starring Malayalam icon Mohanlal, has officially confirmed that the film will be released globally on April 2, 2026.
The renowned production house Aashirvad Cinemas shared the exciting news on their X timeline, stating, "Years have passed. The past remains unchanged. #Drishyam3 | Worldwide Release | April 2, 2026."
It's worth noting that Mohanlal wrapped up his filming in December of the previous year. A delightful video showing the actor celebrating the completion of his scenes with a cake-cutting ceremony went viral among fans.
Additionally, Mohanlal began his journey on this project just before receiving the prestigious Dadasaheb Phalke Award last year.
The third installment of this beloved franchise was officially launched during a traditional puja ceremony at a law college near Kochi in September of the previous year.
During a media interaction prior to the launch, director Jeethu Joseph disclosed that 'Drishyam 3' will delve into the next chapter of Georgekutty's life, the iconic character portrayed by Mohanlal.
“The narrative will explore what unfolds in Georgekutty’s life after four-and-a-half years. This is the essence of the story,” Joseph explained.
Producer Antony Perumbavoor, a long-time associate of Mohanlal and instrumental in the success of the Drishyam series, mentioned that the decision to continue with the third installment was made after thorough discussions.
“The overwhelming feedback from the first two films affirmed that Georgekutty’s journey had more stories to tell. We finalized this new version only after extensive conversations with Jeethu,” Perumbavoor elaborated.
The film was shot in various locations, including Thodupuzha and Vagamon, with the final five-day schedule occurring in Ernakulam.
The Drishyam films have carved a niche in Indian cinema, renowned for their captivating narratives, intricate suspense, and Mohanlal’s celebrated performances.
The inaugural film was released in 2013 and set new standards in Malayalam cinema, while its sequel, launched in 2021, achieved record-breaking viewership both in theaters and on streaming platforms.
