Has Olivia Colman Always Identified as Non-Binary?
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Los Angeles, Feb 9 (NationPress) Hollywood star Olivia Colman is reflecting on her gender identity, feeling a connection to being non-binary.
The 52-year-old actress shared that she has consistently felt uneasy with conventional gender roles. She describes herself to her husband of 25 years, Ed Sinclair, as a "gay man", according to reports from ‘Female First UK’.
In her role in the new queer film ‘Jimpa’, Olivia expressed to Them, "Throughout my entire life, I've had discussions with others regarding my non-binary feelings. I've never felt overly feminine in my female identity. I've always referred to myself as a gay man to my husband, and he responds with, 'Yeah, I understand that'. I genuinely feel comfortable and at peace with this understanding".
The Oscar-winning actress elaborated, "I don't usually associate with people who are strictly heterosexual. The men I cherish are in touch with all aspects of their personalities. In our relationship, my husband and I alternate being the 'strong one' or the one needing tenderness. I believe everyone has a mix of traits within them".
She continued, “I've consistently felt this way. I'm not alone in expressing, 'I don't perceive it as binary'. I appreciated that realization. Completing this film reassured me of that fact".
According to ‘Female First UK’, Olivia reminisced about her initial attraction to Ed, who transitioned from acting to screenwriting and producing, recalling that she was captivated by his profile during a rehearsal.
Olivia recounted, "I had attended two rehearsals where no one particularly stood out. Then I entered and saw his left profile as he smoked a cigarette, with his feet crossed and a charming bump on his nose. At that moment, I thought, 'Oh my God, I’m going to marry him.' I experienced a complete revelation; I knew it was him. Poor guy, he had no idea".
She also noted that the longevity of her marriage to Ed is attributed to their nature of being "not big fighters".
