Los Angeles, Oct 21 (NationPress) Hollywood actress Elizabeth Olsen is taking a firm stand regarding her film choices. She has publicly declared her decision to refrain from participating in Hollywood studio productions that lack a confirmed theatrical release.
Having gained acclaim as an indie film star since her debut in 2011’s 'Martha Marcy May Marlene', Olsen feels at ease taking on roles in movies that may not be widely distributed but are sold to streaming platforms, according to 'Variety'.
Olsen emphasized her preference for theatrical releases, stating, “If a movie is made independently and only sells to a streamer, then that’s acceptable. However, I want to avoid making films where streaming is the final destination. It’s crucial for people to unite as a community, to experience being together in a shared space.”
She further explained, “That’s why I enjoy sports. It’s incredibly impactful for individuals to gather for something they are passionate about. We don’t even audition in person anymore.”
Since her last appearance as the Scarlet Witch in the Marvel Cinematic Universe with 2022’s 'Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness', Olsen has focused on indie films such as 'His Three Daughters' (2023), 'The Assessment' (2024), and the upcoming A24 romantic comedy 'Eternity'. Notably, only 'His Three Daughters' was backed by a streaming service (Netflix), yet it received an awards-qualifying theatrical release in select theaters.
With her experience in the MCU, where she has portrayed the Scarlet Witch since her initial appearance in the post-credits scene of 2014’s 'Captain America: The Winter Soldier', Olsen understands the significance of bringing audiences together in theaters.
Regarding her experiences in the MCU, Olsen remarked, “Making these films is enjoyable. It’s whimsical. We’re adults behaving like children on a playground, flying and shooting energy from our hands. This character has allowed me to return multiple times over the past decade. I love putting her away only to miss her and want her back. I would eagerly seize the chance to step back into her shoes.”
She also highlighted the advantages of the MCU, stating, “It provides a consistent community and job, which is rare. The extraordinary camera movements, stunt work, and real-time visual effects are remarkable.”
“It requires immense coordination, with hundreds of individuals on set, and it’s a profound experience to be part of a collective working toward a common objective. The visual effects team are true artists. The heart and passion of this work matter. I care about delivering outstanding performances, and so does everyone involved,” she concluded.
